Resistance is a Legitimate Right, Terrorism is a Reprehensible Act

What is happening today in Palestine is the result of Israeli violations, including the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, an incessant settlement policy in the West Bank, repeated attacks on the Holy Mosque, and Israel’s non-acceptance of the Arab initiative for a two-state solution to withdraw to the 1967 borders, and to establish a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Rabat – What is happening today in Palestine is the result of Israeli violations, including the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, an incessant settlement policy in the West Bank, repeated attacks on the Holy Mosque, and Israel’s non-acceptance of the Arab initiative for a two-state solution to withdraw to the 1967 borders, and to establish a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

However, the consequences of what is happening cannot be confined only to Israeli politics.

Political considerations

The political trading on the part of Tehran’s regime, which does not dare to engage in direct war with Israel, but exploits the tension and absence of peace to implement its malicious agendas, must also be considered.

What happened today is related to the negotiations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which have witnessed significant progress recently.

The Iranian side is worried about the possibility of an agreement, which could allow Saudi Arabia to obtain uranium enrichment capabilities as well as a defense agreement with the US.

In addition, there are parties within Israel that would like an agreement with Saudi Arabia, but only given that the Kingdom does not obtain the right to enrich uranium and that the Palestinian people do not have their legitimate rights.

The speech of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was very emotional today, as he said that the conflict will be resolved on the field.

However, will we see Hamas accepting Egyptian mediation as is usual in a few days time?

Will we also see, afterwards, the movement negotiating a truce with the Israeli side in exchange for obtaining additional money from the Gulf countries without liberating the territory?

Rules of resistance

Resistance is a lawful right for any oppressed people, but it must have rules and regulations, lest it be interpreted as terrorism and crime.

The violations we witnessed today targeting Israeli civilians do not serve the Palestinian cause, but will lead to growing international sympathy for Israel.

What happened today is similar to what happened fifty years ago in the war of October 1973, but to a lesser extent in terms of Israeli military losses.

The two strikes were directed to coincide with a Jewish religious holiday. In addition, there was a clear failure in the midst of Israeli intelligence and a clear confusion within its army.

But what happened days after the Egyptian army destroyed the Barlev Line? What happened hours after the start of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation?

The United States launched a very large air bridge towards Israel to compensate for its military losses in 1973. The same thing happened today when America decided to grant $8.5 billion in military aid to Israel.

After the October War, the Egyptians liberated the entire territory of Sinai but only after a long process of negotiation.

Years ago, Israel withdrew unilaterally from the Gaza Strip, but what happened today could lead them to carry out a land invasion that could be very costly for the people of Gaza.

We must minimize the emotional and enthusiastic rhetoric during moments that will be followed only by tragedies affecting the innocent Palestinian people.

Civilians are the ones who pay the price for policies that do not value human life.

I reject any aggression against civilians, whether Palestinians or Israelis, and I hope that the violence directed at them will stop.

I also hope that the Palestinian people will achieve their legitimate rights.
