Tetouan – An unusual aviation incident unfolded on April 14 at Vatry Airport, where a Ryanair flight bound for Marrakech took off without a single passenger on board, leaving nearly 200 travelers stranded on the ground.

A total of 192 passengers were unable to board the aircraft and remained at the airport as it departed empty.

Many expressed frustration and disbelief, describing the situation as unacceptable, particularly as some had incurred significant expenses for family travel plans.

According to information reported by Franceinfo, the disruption was caused by a shortage of security personnel at the time of boarding.

Airport authorities said they were caught off guard by the simultaneous absence of security teams, making it impossible to carry out mandatory screening procedures.

Without these checks, boarding could not legally proceed.

However, the aircraft was ultimately cleared for departure despite having no passengers on board.

Travelers affected by the incident pointed to a lack of anticipation and poor communication, with several stating they received little to no guidance regarding alternative arrangements or assistance.

While delays and cancellations are common in air travel, the departure of an empty commercial flight remains highly unusual.

The accident points to the critical role of security operations in maintaining airport functionality, as well as the need for close coordination between airlines and airport authorities.

In the days following the incident, no compensation had reportedly been issued, and Ryanair had not publicly responded.

The situation could potentially lead to legal action, particularly under European regulations governing air passenger rights.
