Rabat – Morocco’s U23 center-back Chadi Riad was introduced officially to the international media on Wednesday as a new signing for Spanish La Liga club Real Betis, on loan from FC Barcelona.
The Verdiblancos and Barcelona have reached an agreement on the loan of the Moroccan player for one season with a purchase option as reported by Estadio Deportivo.
“Betis is a giant club in which I have already been able to learn a lot in these weeks. It is a very big leap, because going from the First RFEF to the First Division is a huge challenge,” Riad stated.
“In principle, I come with a one-year loan, but I have already felt at home and I hope to be there for a long time,” he added. “I come with great enthusiasm to do well and stay.”
Chadi Riad was the captain of FC Barcelona B, the second team of the Blaugrana.
Barcelona’s first team manager Xavi Hernandez saw that the Moroccan needs more experience in La Liga before coming back to the club or being eased into the first team.
The Moroccan international will be wearing number 28 that previous Real Betis player Rodri Sanchez used to wear.
Chadi Riad has caught the attention of many football enthusiasts during his last performance with the Moroccan team in the recent U-23 African Cup of Nations.
Morocco managed to win after a dramatic final game against Egypt 2-1 in Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
