Rabat – Today saw the kick off of the round of 16 games of the 2023 Women’s World Cup tournament held in Australia and New Zealand.
This new phase of the competition will last four days with sixteen teams competing to qualify to the quarter-final phase. There will be two matches per day during these four days.
The first day of this new phase saw Spain and Switzerland facing off at the Eden Park Outer Oval stadium in a game which ended 5-1 in favor of Spain.
The second match brought Japan together with Norway at Wellington Regional Stadium, with the Japanese team finishing triumphant by a 3-1 score.
On the second day, August 6, the Netherlands will play South Africa at Allianz Stadium, while Sweden will meet the US at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
On August 7, England and Nigeria will compete at Suncorp Stadium, while Australia will play against Denmark at Stadium Australia.
On the final day of this competition phase, August 8, Colombia and Jamaica will confront each other at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, whereas France and Morocco will clash at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Qualified thus far for the quarter-final round are Spain and Japan who are still waiting to know their opponents for their knockout game on August 11.
With South Africa, Nigeria, and Morocco having taken the football world by storm by gracefully marching into the Round of 16, African fans will be expecting the three teams to extend their World Cup journey by proudly representing the resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit of the African continent.
