Rabat – Bayern Munich have moved ahead of Real Madrid to become UEFA’s top‑ranked club for the 2026‑27 season.

UEFA calculates its annual club standings using a five‑year rolling system based on performances in European competitions.

The rankings influence seedings in the Champions League and other continental draws. Clubs are judged either on their accumulated points over five seasons or 20 percent of their national association’s coefficient, whichever is higher.

Bayern take top spot

Real Madrid had led the rankings after winning Champions League titles in 2022 and 2024, but Bayern’s consistency has now put them first.

The German side reached at least the quarter‑finals in each of the past five seasons, including two semi‑final appearances. This year, they eliminated Madrid in the quarter‑finals with a 6‑4 aggregate win.

Madrid, meanwhile, have been knocked out at the quarter‑final stage in successive seasons and struggled in the new league phase format, often requiring play‑offs to advance.

Bayern’s steady results gave them enough points to surpass Madrid, finishing second in the 2025‑26 table and now climbing to first overall.

Other movers

Paris Saint‑Germain rose to third after winning back‑to‑back Champions League titles, including their win over Arsenal in the final.

Arsenal recorded the highest coefficient points for last season and jumped five places to seventh.

Liverpool remain fourth, while Manchester City dropped to sixth after two straight last‑16 exits.

Inter are fifth, Barcelona eighth, Bayer Leverkusen ninth, and Atletico Madrid tenth. Aston Villa made the biggest leap, climbing 29 places to 17th after a strong European campaign.

Chelsea fell to 12th following their last‑16 defeat to PSG, and Manchester United slipped to 21st after missing out on European competition altogether.
