Rabat – A ceremony was held on Tuesday evening at the Rabat-Sale airport in honor of the returning Moroccan national team who had a successful tournament at the 2023 Para-Athletics World Championships in Paris.

Said Lamrini, the National Technical Director of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities (FRMSPSH), as well as the members of the Federation’s executive committee welcomed the members of the national team.

During this year’s world championships, which saw the participation of athletes from 107 countries, Morocco won seven medals including three gold, two silver, and two bronze.

FRMSPSH President Hamid El Aouni expressed his satisfaction with the national para-athletic team’s 20th-place finish at the World Championships, noting that the team competed against athletes from leading para-athletics nations and still managed to win seven medals and break two world records.

In an interview with MAP, Morocco’s press agency, El Aouni spoke glowingly of the amazing performance of the national team. He stressed that despite competing in the World Championships with only 18 athletes, Morocco was able to obtain 11 qualifying spots for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

According to El Aouni, the success of the Moroccan Paralympic champions at the Paris World Championships can be attributed to the hard work of the national managers and the effectiveness of the Federation’s athlete training program.

This competition is regarded as the second-most significant worldwide for disabled athletes after the Paralympic Games.

FRMSPSH’s president also stated his desire to continue trying to maintain this level of competitiveness in order to further shatter records at the upcoming Paralympic Games in terms of both performance and medal count.

Moroccan champion Ayoub Sadni, who won the 400-meter T47 event at the World Para-Athletics Championships, credited his success to his tireless preparation and dedication.

Sadni, who set a new world record in this competition with a timing of 46.78, stated that this achievement would spur him on to do well at the upcoming Paralympic Games.
