Rabat – At just 19, Kimi Antonelli has somehow become the face of Formula 1’s next generation. Stepping into Lewis Hamilton’s seat at Mercedes, the Italian has spent the first part of the 2026 season rewriting the record books and forcing his way into the title conversation.

His campaign didn’t start with fireworks, but rather with a quiet second-place finish behind his teammate George Russell in Australia. But China changed everything. Antonelli didn’t just win in Shanghai; he also claimed pole position first, becoming the youngest pole-sitter in F1 history.

After that, the floodgates opened. Japan, Miami, and Canada all fell to the rookie. When Russell suffered a costly retirement in Montreal, Antonelli’s winning streak pushed his championship lead to 43 points.

Then came Monaco, turning a great season into something legendary. It was absolute chaos: seven retirements, red flags, and a standing restart that should have rattled any rookie. Instead, Verstappen’s race fell apart at the start while Antonelli just checked out from pole, controlling the pace to secure his fifth consecutive victory and stretch his lead to 66 points.

Naturally, Barcelona brought him back to earth. A mechanical failure forced his first retirement, snapping the streak and letting Lewis Hamilton take the win for Ferrari. Just like that, the gap shrank to 41 points.

Growing up in Italy’s famous Motor Valley as the son of racer Marco Antonelli, the teenager seemed to always be destined to be fast. What has genuinely shocked the paddock, though, is his mental game. The suffocating pressure of driving for Mercedes doesn’t seem to affect him. Barcelona proved he isn’t invincible, but with 15 rounds left, Antonelli is still making the hardest sport on earth look effortless.
