Rabat – Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi rejected Jesse Marsch’s claim that Canada were the better team, saying the 3-0 scoreline tells the real story of the World Cup Round of 16 clash.
Speaking after Morocco’s victory, Ouahbi acknowledged Canada’s performance but said the result speaks for itself.
“They were good, but it’s hard to say you were the better team when you lose 3-0. There was only one save from Bono. In the second half, they were good, but they lacked efficiency. Then we created chances through the middle.”
The Morocco coach added that difficult spells are unavoidable in a tournament like the FIFA World Cup and that his players handled those moments well.
“As I always tell the players, we are playing in the World Cup, so we will go through difficult moments. It is not normal to play every match comfortably.”
Ouahbi praised his team’s mentality when the game became challenging.
“When we are not at our best, we must stay united. In those moments, we remember who we are playing for, and that is exactly what the players showed during the match.”
Morocco’s 3-0 victory over Canada sent the Atlas Lions into the quarter-finals, where they will continue their bid to make more World Cup history after becoming the first African nation to reach the last eight in two different editions of the tournament.
