About AMSSNuR
Established in 2014, the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) is a strategically important public establishment entrusted with the responsibility of regulating and overseeing activities associated with ionizing radiation sources.
The primary objective of AMSSNuR is to ensure the adherence to nuclear and radiological safety and security standards within facilities and operations involving ionizing radiation sources, both in compliance with domestic regulations and Morocco’s international obligations.
Since its inception, the agency has played a pivotal role in making Morocco a continental leader on issues of nuclear safety.
Through AMSSNuR, Morocco took part in a number of international initiatives and programs relating to nuclear safety.
Between 2018 and 2022, the agency was part of the EU-Morocco nuclear cooperation program, an initiative aiming to support Morocco’s nuclear safety agency in developing a national regulatory framework, building human resources, and structuring a strategy to counter nuclear hazards, according to the program’s technical project leader Alfredo De Los Reye.
