Morocco's King Mohammed VI Chairs Ministerial Meeting, Approves Decrees on Military, International Conventions

Rabat – King Mohammed VI chaired today a Council of Ministers meeting at the Royal Palace in Rabat. The meeting was devoted to draft decrees related to the military and a number of international conventions.

It focused on the approval of draft decrees related to the military and a number of international conventions, according to a statement by the spokesman of the Royal Palace, Abdelhak El Mrini.

At the beginning of the Council, King Mohammed VI inquired about the results of the current agricultural campaign and the measures planned to support farmers due to the rise in agricultural raw material prices.

The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fishing, Rural Development, and Water and Forests responded to the monarch’s inquiries, stating that despite years of drought, cereal production for the current campaign is projected to reach approximately 55 million quintals, a remarkable 62% increase compared to the previous campaign’s 34 million quintals.

The minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to implement a support program for farmers, including allocating a budget of MAD 10 billion ($1 billion) to support imported feed for livestock and poultry, and reduce the cost of production for certain vegetables and fruits through the support of imported agricultural raw materials.

Morocco’s agriculture has been equally corked to strengthen the financing capacities of the Credit Agricole du Maroc, an agriculture-focused bank, and ensure the adequate supply of the market until December 2023 by importing soft wheat.

The council equally approved several draft decrees relating to the military. The decrees include the launching of the Royal Interarmy School of Administration, which aims to provide training in administration and finance for officers who have graduated from training establishments of the Royal Armed Forces, as well as personnel from the National Defense Administration and military officers from brotherly and foreign countries.

The graduates of this school will obtain a Master’s degree in administration and finance, along with a degree in Military Intendant for officers.

In addition, the council approved a number of amendments to the organization of the Royal Air School to meet the human resource needs of the Royal Air Forces, allowing access to the first year of the aeronautics license cycle for holders of the baccalaureate in experimental sciences and mathematical sciences sections.

The council also amended and supplemented the decree regarding the organization of the International Academy Mohammed VI of Civil Aviation, enabling students in the “Air Traffic Control” and “Electronic Security of Air Traffic” specialties to benefit from military training.

Regarding international conventions, the council adopted eight international conventions, including two bilateral agreements focused on strengthening air transport services with Saudi Arabia and cooperation in the field of commercial navigation with Djibouti.

The multilateral conventions include various areas such as the recognition of higher education studies and degrees in Arab countries.

The council also approved a number of conventions on equality between nationals and non-nationals in the field of social security, and the establishment of a representation of the International Center for Migration Policy Development in Morocco.

During the meeting, the King also approved a number of high-profile appointments, including Tarik El Aroussi and new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ports Operating Company.

The list of new appointments also included Housni El Ghazaoui as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al Omrane Development Group, Mohamed Fekrat as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Credit Agricole du Maroc and, Mohamed Benyahya as Director General of the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency
