Marrakech – The Left Alliance in the Tiflet-Rommani electoral district filed a formal complaint with police today, reporting what it called “suspicions and violations” around several polling centers as voting unfolded in Morocco’s parliamentary elections.

According to a statement from the group, coordination with its representatives inside polling stations flagged a black car in the Al Andalus neighborhood whose driver repeatedly circled one polling center, gathering people and transporting them in the vehicle.

Alliance representatives then moved to the site to verify the information, where they confirmed the car’s presence near the polling office. A security officer attempted to stop the driver and requested the vehicle’s documents, but the man left the scene quickly without complying, according to the group’s account.

Facing what it described as a “suspicion requiring verification,” the alliance lodged its complaint with the cell tasked with tracking elections at the Tiflet police commissariat, calling for an investigation into the nature of the conduct and its circumstances.

The statement also pointed to similar observations and movements around a number of other polling centers, which the alliance considered to raise further suspicions of breaches to the integrity of the ballot.

The group described handling each case separately through verification, documentation, and available legal procedures. It would treat “with the necessary seriousness and rigor” any incident affecting the rules that govern the vote or the freedom of choice of voters, per the statement.

The complaint comes as polling stations are operating across Morocco under what authorities describe as ordinary conditions. Voting for the House of Representatives opened at 8 a.m. and is set to close at 7 p.m., with the Interior Ministry reporting national turnout of 21% by 3 p.m.

These are the 12th legislative elections since independence and the sixth since King Mohammed VI acceded to the throne in 1999. Some 15.8 million voters are registered, while 28 political formations are competing for the chamber’s 395 seats.

A total of 7,288 candidacies are recorded nationally across 1,850 lists, including 2,658 women. The campaign, launched September 10, ended at midnight Tuesday.

Ahead of the vote, the Interior Ministry had activated a central committee in July to monitor the elections, alongside regional and provincial committees, to accompany the process and counter any violations affecting its integrity.

First provisional results are expected Thursday.
