Rabat – Morocco’s U20 national team kicked off its UNAF Championship campaign with a goalless draw against Tunisia on Sunday in Egypt.
Facing a well-organized Tunisian side, Morocco’s U20 squad dominated long stretches of play but lacked precision in the final third.
Neither team managed to capitalize on their chances, leaving the scoreline goalless after 90 minutes.
The draw gives the Atlas Cubs their opening point of the campaign. The young side remains well-placed in the tournament standings, though sharp finishing in the final third will be essential for their upcoming group matches.
The Atlas Cubs must now turn their focus to their next match as they look to climb the standings. The top two teams will secure a place at the next U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The UNAF U20 Tournament serves as the North African qualifying pathway for the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Featuring five member nations, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, and host nation Egypt, the single round-robin tournament awards two qualification spots for the continental finals.
Matches run through October 6 at the Suez Canal and Ismailia stadiums, with each team playing four fixtures to determine the top two finishers.
Because the tournament features five teams, one nation must sit out each round. Morocco received a bye on opening day, giving the squad extra rest while the other four teams played.
With the tournament still in its early stages, Morocco remains well within reach of the qualifying spots.
If the Atlas Cubs can convert their chances into goals in the upcoming fixtures, they will put themselves in a strong position to secure a place at the next U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
