Morocco Extends Transport Fuel Support Amid Rising Global Hydrocarbon Prices

Casablanca – Morocco will continue its direct and exceptional support for professionals in the freight and passenger transport sectors as international hydrocarbon prices continue to rise.

A ministerial commission meeting announced the decision today. The commission is tasked with monitoring the impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on the national economy.

Outgoing Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch chaired the meeting in Rabat.

The meeting came a day after King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the new Head of Government and tasked her with forming a new government.

The outgoing government continues to handle current affairs while El Mansouri works on forming the new government.

Against this backdrop, Akhannouch presided over the commission meeting addressing the effects of rising international hydrocarbon prices and geopolitical tensions on Morocco’s economy.

Under Wednesday’s decision, the value of the direct support for transport professionals will be adjusted in line with the increase in hydrocarbon prices. The measure covers professionals transporting both goods and passengers.

The outgoing government said the decision aims to maintain regular market supplies and keep public transport services operating at current fares, with no increase for citizens.

The latest measure follows several rounds of government support introduced as global fuel prices rose. In March, Morocco launched an exceptional aid program for freight and passenger transport professionals after international oil prices pushed up fuel costs in the domestic market. The program covered several categories, including freight transport, passenger transport, taxis and tourist transport.

The outgoing government also extended the support in September with a new 30-day tranche, as international fuel prices continued to put pressure on the domestic market. The ministry said at the time that support would continue in line with international fuel prices.

Wednesday’s commission meeting reviewed the country’s energy stocks. The outgoing government said Morocco currently has reserve stocks of butane gas and gasoil covering between 40 and 60 days.

It also reported that supplies of agricultural products and basic goods to the national market were continuing under normal conditions despite geopolitical tensions and pressure on global energy supplies.

Transport professionals can submit applications for the support according to their categories through the Mouakaba platform and track their requests electronically.
