Agadir – Morocco has increased exceptional direct aid for road transport professionals as fuel prices continue to rise, with the government seeking to adjust the assistance to higher hydrocarbon costs.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics announced Friday that it had raised the amount of exceptional financial support allocated to professionals transporting passengers and goods under the latest assistance tranche.

The ministry said the decision followed the government’s move to continue providing exceptional direct support to the road transport sector while adjusting the aid to reflect the increase in hydrocarbon prices.

Applications for the latest tranche opened on September 24 through the ministry’s electronic platform, Mouakaba.

The ministry said payments for the new tranche will begin next week.

The measure comes shortly after fuel distributors increased pump prices late Wednesday. Gasoil rose by MAD 0.80 per liter, while super gasoline increased by MAD 0.39, according to converging reports.

The latest adjustment brought indicative gasoil prices to around MAD 15.81 per liter, compared with about MAD 15.01 previously. Super gasoline reached approximately MAD 15.33 per liter, up from MAD 14.94.

Actual pump prices vary depending on the distributor, city, and service station.

The latest increase represents a sharper adjustment for gasoil than the revision recorded at the beginning of September, when gasoil prices rose by about MAD 0.06 per liter while gasoline prices remained unchanged.

On Wednesday, outgoing Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch chaired a meeting in Rabat of the ministerial committee tasked with monitoring the impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on Morocco’s economy.

The committee agreed to continue the exceptional direct support and adjust its value in line with rising international hydrocarbon prices.

The government said the measure is intended to preserve the regular supply of goods to markets and maintain current public transport fares without passing higher fuel costs on to citizens.

The committee also reported normal supplies of energy, agricultural products, and basic goods, with Morocco holding strategic reserves of butane gas and diesel sufficient for between 40 and 60 days.

The renewed support comes as geopolitical tensions and international energy market pressures continue to affect fuel prices in Morocco.

The exceptional assistance, first introduced last March, targets professionals operating in passenger and freight road transport and seeks to manage the impact of higher fuel costs on their operations.
