Rabat– Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics has announced a new installment of direct exceptional financial support for professionals in passenger and freight road transport, covering the period from August 1 to 15.
The ministry said Thursday that registration for the latest installment will open on Wednesday, August 19, through the same dedicated online platform used for the support program.
The measure forms part of the government’s broader efforts to assist Morocco’s road transport sector, which has faced sustained pressure from fluctuations in fuel prices and rising operating costs.
The latest installment continues a support scheme that has been renewed several times since fuel prices began placing additional pressure on transport operators. Earlier this year, the government moved toward disbursing the assistance every 15 days, allowing the system to better reflect changes in fuel prices on international markets.
The latest support measure comes as transport operators face renewed pressure from rising fuel costs.
Earlier this month, fuel prices in Morocco increased by MAD 1 ($0.11) per liter, with distributors applying new rates for diesel and premium gasoline from Sunday night, August 2. The increase marked the second consecutive rise in less than three weeks.
Under the new rates, diesel prices were expected to reach around MAD 14.30 ($1.53) per liter, compared with approximately MAD 13.30 ($1.43) previously. Premium gasoline was expected to rise to nearly MAD 15.24 ($1.63) per liter, up from around MAD 14.24 ($1.53).
Prices may vary slightly depending on the region and distributor.
For road transport operators, the renewed increase adds to the cost pressures facing companies providing passenger and freight services. Industry representatives have warned that government assistance has become increasingly important for many operators as fuel prices fluctuate.
Support for transport professionals
The ministry did not disclose the financial value of the latest support installment. It said the assistance is intended to reduce the impact of fuel price volatility on road transport professionals while maintaining government support for the sector.
The government has repeatedly renewed the exceptional support program as fuel costs have placed pressure on transport operators. The shift to payments every 15 days earlier this year was designed to allow the mechanism to respond more closely to changes in international fuel prices.
Eligible professionals will be able to register for the latest installment beginning August 19 through the dedicated electronic platform, Mouakaba Transport.
The new tranche is expected to provide continued support to passenger and freight transport operators as they navigate renewed increases in fuel prices and their impact on operating costs.
