Rabat – Moroccan international football player Sofyan Amrabat was close to signing a transfer from Italy’s Fiorentina to Spanish club Barcelona during the winter transfer season. However, the deal was dropped after Barcelona failed to meet the legal requirements.

In an interview with “ESPN,” Nordin Amrabat, the player’s brother said that the Spanish club tabled an offer for the Moroccan player “two or three days before the market closed, but they weren’t able to include a mandatory purchase option and that was it.”

According to Spanish news reports, Barcelona club continues to eye the international player for the next transfer season.

“Sofyan really wanted to go to Barca and had a lot of hope that the whole operation could happen because Barcelona did offer a good rate for the loan but Fiorentina didn’t let him go,” Nordin Amrabat said.

When asked if his brother would agree to transfer to Barcelona, Nordin said:  “If Barcelona shows up, you just want to make that transfer. And if Barcelona doesn’t buy you, someone else will buy you. Fiorentina would charge anyway.”

Sofyan Amrabat’s contract with Fiorentina will expire in 2024. However, reports indicate that the Italian club is trying to renew it to prevent him from leaving this summer.
