Rabat – Morocco’s Taekwondo national team clinched several gold, silver and bronze medals at the third Arab Taekwondo Championship, which took place in Fujairah, UAE, on February 2 and 3.
Converging news outlets presented different figures for the number of medals won by the Moroccan Taekwondo team.
According to Morocco’s news agency (MAP), the team won 13 medals including three gold, three silver and seven bronze.
Meanwhile, Emirates News agency reported that Morocco topped the medal table with 16 medals, including three gold, four silver and nine bronze.
The gold medals went to Salma Morino in the under 49 kilograms (kg) weight category, Meriem Khallal in the under 62 kilograms, and Fatima Zahra Abou Fares in the greater than 73 kg weight category.
In the under 46 kg weight category, Fatima Zahra Bensaid received a silver medal. Meanwhile, Meriem Enniya and Omaima Boumah also secured two silver medals in their respective weight categories, under 62 kg and under 73 kg.
The bronze medals went to Nezha Al Assal in the under 49 kilograms weight category, Meriem Anems in the under 53 kg weight category, Sanaa Baaiza in the under 67 kg weight category, and Hatim Borho in the under 54 kg weight category.
Abdel Basset Wasfi, Faissal Saidi, Mohamed Farhane also secured three bronze medals in their respective weight categories — 63 kg, 68 kg, and 87 kg.
The competition also saw the participation of other Moroccan taekwondo players including Mohammed Ataqi, Reda Aouinat, Hassan Aberkane, Haitam Zaghoti, Ahmed Ben Bakria, and Hajar Charif.
The Moroccan taekwondo players were supervised by Abdelkader Zerouri, Hakima Meslahi and Issam Acharnoubi.
