Rabat – King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences to South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol following a stampede that took place during Halloween celebrations on October 29.

The stampede killed 154 people, and left 149 others injured.

In the message, King Mohammed VI expressed his condolences and his “sincere compassion” for the victims’ families, wishing a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

Thousands of people gathered in Itaewon to celebrate Halloween, prompting a deadly crowd surge.

Morocco’s embassy in Seoul said that no Moroccans were among the identified victims of the stampede. The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, set up an emergency cell to receive inquiries from Moroccans in South Korea.

Several other countries sent their condolences and compassion to South Korea, including the US, China, and the UK.

“We grieve with the people of the Republic of Korea and wish for a quick recovery to all those who were injured,” President Joe Biden said in a tweet.
Chinese President Xi Jinping also expressed deep condolences to the victims and extended “sincere condolences to their families and the injured.”

Emmanuel Macron offered France’s “heartfelt” support after the tragic incident. “Heartfelt thoughts for the residents of Seoul and the Korean people after the tragedy at Itaewon. France is by your side,” he said.

The country deployed 800 emergency workers and police officers from across the country to help the victims.
