Rabat – In a bid to expand its footprint in Morocco, French hospitality firm Accor has partnered with the Doha-based Katara Hospitality to open Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier on November 1.

Accor’s third Fairmont property in Morocco, located minutes from the city center and airport, the hotel will feature 133 rooms and suites, a spa, restaurants and bars, and conference spaces.

Given that the Accor-Katara partnership aims to restore the landmark Tazi Palace, the new luxury hotel will feature Arab-Andalusian architecture with a touch of modern design.

“With its deep history blended with contemporary Moroccan architecture, the Tazi Palace will become a true hospitality icon that represents both a proud legacy and an exciting future,” says Acting CEO of Katara Hospitality Andrew Humphries. “The resort will emerge as a relaxing urban escape that is a true celebration of rich Moroccan culture and history.”

By investing in the restoration of the Tazi Palace, Katara Hospitality opens its second venture in North Africa. “It gives us great pleasure to share our Moroccan flagship property with Accor,” says Ali Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Chairman of Katara Hospitality

According to Al Kuwari, the joint project is set to “support the development of the local community, while sharing our expertise in the hospitality field and investing into creating a strong partnership and lasting value.”

Echoing Al Kuwari’s sentiment, Accor’s Chairman welcomed the partnership, stating that the project provides a “wonderful addition” to his company’s “luxury portfolio in Morocco.”

“We are proud and happy to partner, once again, with Katara Hospitality on another wonderful project,” he added.

As the opening date approaches, Fabien Gastinel, General Manager of the new hotel stated that “The next few months will be very exciting as the team and I prepare to welcome guests to this incredible property, and offer truly memorable experiences and a highly engaged and personalized service.”

As the French hospitality firm seeks to reinforce its presence in Morocco, Accor continues to expand its 41-property network with four projects being under development. In March, three Accor hotels installed 12 Tesla superchargers to meet the emerging demand for electric cars.

Accor and major hospitality companies including Marriott, Hilton, and Radisson Hotel Group have increased interest in the African hospitality sector, with Morocco being a major investment hub.

According to the latest African Hotel Chain Development Pipeline Survey, Morocco comes second in Africa for hotel development. Morocco has the largest number of planned hotel rooms, estimated at 7,209 rooms across 50 hospitality establishments, including 5,577 hotel rooms under construction.
