Rabat – Tens of thousands of people have already filed past the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II, despite warnings from the government to stay at home and avoid extending queues further.

The UK’s culture ministry said the waiting time stood at up to 16 hours to reach Westminster Hall to lay an eye on the coffin.

The ministry also said it would deny people entry if demand got too high, also issuing a warning to people outside of London not to travel for the event.

London also saw the recently proclaimed King Charles III along with his son William, the Prince of Wales greet the crowd and chat with some of the people attending.

The queen’s coffin is set to take place on Monday, September 19, in Westminster Abbey, with the day being a bank holiday across the UK. The event is expected to draw in the biggest TV audiences in the UK’s history.

Numerous world leaders are also expected to be in attendance at the funeral, with strict arrangements being made for everyone who is attending the event.

Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8 at 96 years old. Her son, Charles III, became the country’s new monarch immediately after.
