Rabat – Buckingham Palace put out a statement on Thursday announcing that Queen Elizabeth II has been put under medical supervision following concerns from her doctors.
“The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral,” the brief statement concluded, referring to the royal Balmoral estate in Scotland.
According to reports from the BBC, all of the British queen’s children are either at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland, or currently traveling to it.
“The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime,” newly elected British Prime Minister Liz Truss tweeted.
With Buckingham Palace being usually averse to commenting on the British monarch’s health, the statement and its vagueness have led to increased speculation regarding her condition.
Since earlier this year, the queen has been notably absent from various political events and celebrations, including the opening of parliament and only making brief appearances at her own platinum jubilee celebrations.
While the British queen was photographed on her feet and smiling on Tuesday as she appointed new Prime Minister Liz Truss, observers could not help but notice that she canceled what would have been only a virtual meeting with the Privy council, taking it as a sign that her health has been especially fragile.
After recovering from a bout of COVID-19 earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth has been increasingly handing over her duties to other members of the royal family.
As of 2022, Queen Elizabeth is the second longest-reigning monarch in history, having ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952. She has ruled for more than 70 years.
