As Morocco’s rich ancient culture continues to fascinate some of the world’s foremost content creators, Moroccan inspirations are becoming a common feature of the global popular culture landscape.

The latest noteworthy example of the appeal of Moroccan culture is seen in how the sublimely “mysterious” looks of ancient Moroccan brides captivated award-winning French costume designer Jany Temime, inspiring her to design Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen’s coronation costume in House of the Dragon.

A prequel to Game of Thrones, arguably the world’s most popular television show, House of the Dragon is characterized by its distinct customs and unique medieval style.

A particularly striking outfit in the HBO blockbuster is the coronation gown of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. And according to Temime, the princess’s glorious costume — especially the large, magnificent earrings — is inspired by the accessories of traditional Moroccan brides.

“I got a lot of inspiration from Moroccan brides. I found these earrings and made them longer and longer and longer, and I thought it looked mysterious,’’ the French costume designer explained in a recent interview with Tatler magazine.

Jany Temime is an award-winning French costume designer who is well-known for her work on Skyfall (a James Bond film), Children of Men, Judy, and six Harry Potter films. She is also the lead costume designer in House of the Dragon series.

As it continues to be in the global spotlight, Morocco’s ornate and handcrafted jewelry has been greatly impacted by the country’s ancient culture.

In fact, some of the intricate jewelry designs found in Morocco today have been passed down through generations, providing valuable insight into Moroccan culture through its many unique pieces of artwork. From necklaces to earrings and even bracelets, Moroccan jewelry has piqued the interest of several renowned designers around the world.
