Rabat – The Spanish low-cost airline Binter has announced the launch of a new air route connecting Marrakech and Portugal’s Funchal.
The inauguration of the flight took place on Sunday, July 3 with some 26 passengers embarking from Funchal to Marrakech-Menara international airport.
Airport authorities welcomed passengers, offering them with milk and dates — one of the most common ways of marking Moroccan hospitality.
Binter will serve the destinations twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays until September 25.
The airline’s flight will leave Madeira airport on Thursdays and Sundays at 9:20 a.m. to land at Marrakech-Menara airport at 11:15 a.m, while the return flight is scheduled to depart from the Moroccan city at 5:35 p.m. and land in Funchal at 8:00 p.m.

Borja Bethencourt Munoz, who is in charge of communication at Binter, expressed satisfaction with the flight’s inauguration ceremony.
The launch of the service is the result of joint work between Binter and the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), he said.
“The opening of this direct link is likely to contribute to boosting tourism between these two world tourist destinations,” Munoz commented, emphasizing that the air service will allow Portuguese and Moroccan citizens and foreign tourists to visit Marrakech “non-stop.”
Satisfied with the opening of the new route, the head of the operating department at the Marrakech-Menara international airport emphasized that Binter will provide a direct link between Funchal and Marrakech. The service is “likely to boost tourism” between the tourists from the two countries, stressed the airport official.
Binter has recently expressed its determination to expand its offers with new air routes, connecting Moroccan cities with different destinations in Europe and Africa.
Last week, the Spanish company said it will connect the Canary Islands to ten destinations on the African continent, including the Moroccan cities of Fez, Marrakech, Agadir, Guelmim, Laayoune, and Dakhla.
