Rabat – A man armed with a handgun and a rifle killed four people and injured several during a shooting at a Tusla medical building in Oklahoma, US, the latest of a series of mass shootings in the country.

According to local authorities, the gunman, described as a 35-to-40 year old man, opened fire on the second floor of the medical complex on Wednesday afternoon. He was later found dead of fatal gunshot wounds which were believed to have been self-inflicted.

Speaking at a press conference following the shooting spree, local Deputy Police Chief Eric Dalgleish said: “We have four civilians that are dead, and one shooter that is dead.”

Police received a call regarding an active shooting at 4:52 pm (8:52 pm GMT) and arrived at the scene three minutes later, said Dalgleish.

Captain Richard Meulenbeg told ABC News that by the time police arrived at the hospital, they “found a few people have been shot and some of them had already died.” It was a “catastrophic scene,” he said.

The motives and circumstances of the deadly shooting remain unknown.

In a statement on Twitter, the governor of Oklahoma Kevin Stitt condemned the attack, describing it as a “senseless act of violence and hatred.” He called on “all Oklahomans to come together in support of the Saint Francis health system community.”

The horrifying attack came less than ten days following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. On May 24, an 18-year-old man stormed into the school and opened fire in several classrooms.

The shooting claimed the lives of 19 young children and two teachers, leaving Americans and the rest of the world shocked and heartbroken for the lost lives of the innocent victims.

Just days prior, a racist mass shooting took the lives of 13 people, 11 of whom were people of color, in Buffalo, New York. The gunman has been indicted on domestic terrorism and hate-crime charges.

The United States has recently witnessed an uptick in the alarming number of shootings, with many Americans calling for stricter gun control laws.
