Casablanca – Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, met today in Jeddah with the Saudi Minister of Trade, Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, to discuss measures to increase bilateral trade and identify the goals of economic cooperation between the two nations.

Mezzour is attending the Moroccan-Saudi Business Forum this evening, and the Moroccan minister has presented his participation in the event as reflecting a shared desire to strengthen economic and commercial cooperation between the two nations.

Following in the footsteps of the regional commitments of the kings of both nations, and under the guidance of King Salman bin Abdelaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Bin Abdelaziz, Saudi Arabia is committed to offering a significant boost to commercial and trade relations with Morocco, said Al Qasabi.

For him, the main goal of improving Saudi-Moroccan economic cooperation should be to deepen communication between the governments and business sectors of both nations, while expanding bilateral economic linkages, human capital investment, and cooperative access to prospective markets.

Al Qasabi emphasized the significance of strengthening contacts between government officials and private sector leaders from both countries. He called for the growth of Saudi investments in Morocco, noting that the Gulf country is also open to boosting the presence of Moroccan companies or investments. Currently, Morocco is home to 240 companies while the gulf kingdom houses Moroccan firms.

He also underlined the urgency of investing in human capital by raising the number of Moroccan employees in Saudi Arabia from 22,000 to approximately 500,000.

Mezzour, for his part, examined Morocco’s business options and the immense investment potential in the country, including its geographical location, skilled workforce, and free trade agreements with the European Union, the United States, and numerous Arab nations.

In terms of bilateral trade, he further called for more actions to remove certain obstacles that have been impeding trade between the two nations. He notably discussed the establishment of a shipping line between the two nations in order to boost commerce, noting that Morocco seeks to benefit from Saudi Arabia’s expertise in the field of industrial zones.
