Rabat – Morocco announced on February 6 its support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo 2030 in the capital Riyadh.
Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on twitter, “Upon the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has announced support for the bid of the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host the World Expo 2030 in the city of Riyadh.”
Testifying to the notable relations between Morocco and Saudi Arabia, the declaration of support is in line with the framework of the bonds of continuous solidarity, active cooperation, constant and mutual support between the two brotherly countries, according to a statement from the ministry.
Bourita spoke on the phone with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Prince Faisal bin Farhan. During the phone call, the Saudi foreign minister lauded Morocco’s support for Saudi Arabia’s request to host Expo 2030.
As well as speaking about means to strengthen bilateral ties to serve the interests of both nations and peoples, the two officials discussed regional and international developments of common interest.
In October 2021, Saudi Arabia announced Riyadh’s bid to host Expo 2030 under the theme “The era of change: Leading the planet to a foresighted tomorrow.”
The bid comes as the Gulf kingdom aims to raise its profile internationally by becoming a global investment hub.
The United Arab Emirates is the first country in the Middle East to have hosted the World Expo. The 2020 Dubai Expo launched in October 2021 after months of COVID-related delay, and the world-class expo is set to last until March 2022. The Dubai expo dazzled the international community and attracted millions of tourists from all over the world.
The World Expo seeks to serve as an incubator to stimulate the exchange of new visions among nations while also fostering the development of practical solutions to real-world problems.
The Moroccan pavilion at the Dubai Expo consists of 13 rooms that aim to promote the country’s strategic vision for a more sustainable future.
