Rabat – King Mohammed VI has warmly congratulated the Moroccan national football team and the coaching staff on their qualification for the 2022 World Cup.
The monarch held a phone call with the Head of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, and the captain of the national team, Romain Saiss, to whom he expressed his joy and pride.
The King also spoke to the team’s head coach, Vahid Halilhodzic.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their World Cup playoffs against DR Congo in the Congolese capital last week, the Moroccan football team won tonight’s second leg in Casablanca with a 4-1 scoreline.
Moroccans across the country are wildly celebrating the win, suggesting that the second qualification in a row to football’s most prestigious tournament might have finally brought back joy to fans and buried the painful memories of Morocco’s disappointing, early exit from this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
