Rabat – Morocco’s tourism sector is looking like it could perform better in 2022 than the previous two years, as the country’s economy bounces back from the pandemic, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said in a report in March.
The opening of the Kingdom’s borders and financial programmes such as a MAD two billion ($205 million) government grant to support the sector, announced on Friday, January 14 2022, have meant the outlook for tourism this year in Morocco is positive the Department of Economic Studies and Financial Forecast (DEPF) – part of the economy ministry that compiled the report – said on Tuesday.
People still visited Morocco last year despite the latest border closures in December 2021.

The number of arrivals into Morocco increased by 34% to more than 3.7 million in 2021, compared to 2020 the DEPF said. This was driven by an increase in arrivals of Moroccans residing abroad, even though the number offoreign tourists into the country declined in 2021 compared to the previous 12 months.
The number of people staying in hotels, Airbnbs and Riads for example, increased by 30% in the first eleven months of 2021, year-on-year.
Around 660, 000 passengers flew into Morocco’s airports between February 7 and February 28 this year, with international travelers accounting for half of that number. According to the DEPF, The number of international flights during these weeks rose by 72% compared to the same period in 2019.
