Rabat – The French embassy in Morocco has announced the schedule of a special ferry connecting Tanger Med to Marseille to assist stranded French and European vehicle owners wishing to return home.

According to five tweets by the French Embassy, the upcoming trip is scheduled for March 12, 2022, from Tanger Med port to Marseille, in southern France.

The embassy arranged the special ferry in collaboration with Moroccan authorities to repatriate vehicle owners with French and  European citizenship and permanent residency in France. Their vehicles must be registered in Europe.

Travelers meeting the description must fill out a form to be able to purchase a ticket.

“Registered persons will then be called by the La Méridionale company in order of registration, within the limit of available seats, with priority given to persons already in possession of a ticket from the Méridionale company (regardless of the date),” added the embassy.

The boarding schedule will be communicated in the coming days, while ticket prices are set by the transport company, La Méridionale, since “the French authorities are not responsible for the commercial and pricing policy of private companies.”

The French embassy reported the first special ferry for French and European vehicle owners on January 7 after Morocco closed its airspace and maritime borders on November 29 due to the emergence of the Omicron variant.

The first special Tanger med-Marseille ferry departed on January 19 from Moroccan shores.

As Morocco reopened its airspace border on February 7, the country’s maritime borders remain closed, which fuels a pressing need for special ferries to assist stranded French tourists in the north African country.
