Car Sales in Morocco Fell by 5.5% in February 2022

Sales of new cars in Morocco stood at 25,936 units at the end of February 2022, a 5.5% decline compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the Association of Vehicle Importers Automobiles in Morocco (AIVAM).

Rabat – Sales of new cars in Morocco stood at 25,936 units at the end of February 2022, a 5.5% decline compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the Association of Vehicle Importers Automobiles in Morocco (AIVAM).

In its monthly statistics, AIVAM noted that new passenger vehicles (PCs) amounted to 23,075 units, a decrease of 4.73%, while 2,861 light commercial vehicles (LCVs) have been registered, a decrease of 11.29% compared to the same period in 2021.

Romanian car manufacturer Dacia prevails in the passenger cars segment in Morocco with a market share of 26% that corresponds to 6,000 new registrations at the end of February.

Meanwhile, French automobile manufacturer Renault comes second, selling 3,410 new units with a market share of 14.78%.

Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai ranks third with a market share of 11.25%, selling 2.596 units, while the market share of French brand Peugeot stood at 8.85%; selling 2.042 units in February.

As for LCVs, Renault increased its sales by 90.58% to 587 units with 20.52% in market share, while the German manufacturer Opel recorded a notable increase in sales from 670% to 77 units with 2.69% in market share.

Simultaneously, sales of the Chinese automaker Dongfeng Sokon (DFSK) fell by 41.05% to 415 units representing a market share of 14.51%, while sales of the American manufacturer Ford decreased by 3.2% to 393 vehicles in the same period.

Luxury automobile manufacturers experienced an increase in sales, with German automaker Audi selling 700 units at the end of February 2022, with a market share of 3.03%, ahead of Mercedes (495 vehicles and share of 2.15%), and BMW (318 vehicles and share of 1.38%).

AIVAM’s report indicates that sales of German brand Porsche fell by 24.66% to 55 vehicles while  Jaguar’s sales fell by 35% to 13 units.
