Rabat – As of February 19, the number of people who received the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Morocco exceeded 5.44 million people.
The number of new cases in Morocco continues on a downward trajectory, with 524 new infection cases and 11 deaths recorded yesterday, according to Morocco’s Health and Social Protection ministry.
The number of people who have received the first COVID-19 vaccine dose exceeded 24 million, and the number of people who have received the second shot exceeded 23 million, with over 5.44 million people receiving the COVID-19 booster shot, according to the health ministry.
With the update, the cumulative number of infections is over 1.1 million people since the country recorded its first COVID case in March of 2020. Morocco’s COVID-19 recovery rate is at 98% as of yesterday.
Regarding the regional distribution for the new cases, Casablanca-Settat remains the leading region in reported COVID-19 cases with 103 new cases, followed by the Fes-Meknes region with 85 new cases. The Marrakech-Safi region came in third with 76 cases, and Tenger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima with 44 cases.
Over the same period, the El Gharb region recorded 65 new cases, followed by Rabat-Sale-Kenitra with 48 new cases, and Souss-Massa with 32 cases. The Draa-Tafilalet region recorded 21 new cases, and Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra is the only other region with a little over 20 cases.
The number of total COVID-19 deaths in the country is 15,881, with a mortality rate of 1.4%.
Active cases in the same period are over 8,000 cases, with the number of new patients in critical conditions set at 21, bringing the total number of patients in critical conditions to 339.
Morocco’s Intensive Care Units capacity remains safe at 6.5%, according to the ministry’s statement.
