Rabat – Morocco landed the 20th position in the 2022 Agility Emerging Markets Logistics Index (AEML), an assessment by Agility, a global logistics provider keeping track of and offering insights in logistics infrastructure in emerging markets.

The index measures logistics infrastructure in 50 promising emerging markets along multiple dimensions, including domestic logistics opportunities, international logistics opportunities, business fundamentals, and digital readiness.

Morocco ranks 34th in terms of Domestic Logistics Opportunities. The metric measures a country’s performance and its potential to sustain and develop domestic demand, both demanding competitive logistics infrastructure.

The North African country appears to be faring better on the International Logistics Opportunities front, coming at the 17th place, albeit falling by two places from last year’s ranking.

The sub-index measures internal and external demand for trade requiring intensive logistic infrastructure and the capacity of a country to facilitate cross-border trade operations.

In the Business Fundamental sub-index, Morocco landed its highest ranking across all dimensions in ninth place. The sub-index comprises data on a country’s openness, robustness, and business climate including the regulatory environment.

On the Digital Readiness sub-index, Morocco lags behind at the 36th position, reflecting substantial room for improvement in terms of the innovation-oriented economy.

Moving forward, emerging markets’ place in the global supply chain will hinge on technology adoption, innovation, and sustainability, concludes the report.

In spite of the overall global economic recovery, COVID-19 continues to weigh down on global supply chains, as most of the world’s port congestions are likely to persist throughout 2022, argues the report.
