Rabat – Fatima Zahra Ammor, Morocco’s Tourism Minister pledged on December 21 that the country will launch a comprehensive plan to support tourism sectors.

During a working session with the president and representatives of the National Tourism Confederation, Ammor emphasized the Ministry of Tourism’s commitment to implement “more urgent measures” such as the establishment of a sectoral fund with the support of the Mohammed VI Fund.

In 2020, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI introduced the Mohammed VI Fund as part of proactive measures to support sectors that were highly impacted by the pandemic crisis.

The fund assisted the government to provide operators in sectors impacted with COVID-19 repercussions with incentives and compensation until possible revival of the impacted areas.

Ammor said that the working session offered an opportunity to review the ten proposals the national confederation introduced to the ministry to rescue the tourism sector.

Last week, the confederation released a statement with the proposals, emphasizing that recent measures, including suspension of flights, will heavily impact the tourism sector and its employees, leading to job losses.

The main proposal from the confederation includes a new extension of the MAD 2,000 ($200) compensations dedicated to tourism sector operators.

Ammor previously emphasized the importance of boosting domestic tourism as part of the emergency plan to revive the sector.

The minister has also called for investment in the sector, as well as the creation of affordable tourism resorts to encourage locals to explore their country’s assets.
