Rabat – Strong thunderstorms are expected to hit several provinces across Morocco on Thursday and Friday, the country’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) announced today.

The forecasts predict showers ranging between 20 and 40 millimeters from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. The rainfall will cover the Fahs-Anjra and M’diq-Fnideq provinces.

Rainfalls between 30 and 50 millimeters will hit the provinces of Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan on Thursday noon until Friday 9 a.m.

The stormy showers will be locally accompanied by hailstorms and gusts of wind under thunderstorms.

The rainfalls followed recent showers that covered several provinces earlier this month, particularly northern Morocco.

It remains to be seen whether the government will be satisfied with this year’s agriculture season. Delay of rainfalls could impact this season after a relatively satisfying agriculture year in 2020-21.

In March, the Ministry of Agriculture said heavy rainfalls had a “very positive” impact on the country’s agricultural season last year.

The ministry emphasized that the rainfalls improved plant growth and facilitated maintenance work for farmers.
