Rabat – Representatives from Morocco are today attending the annual conference marking the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School, Including Cyberbullying in Campeche, Mexico.

The conference, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), promotes the International Day against Violence and bullying at School, Including Cyberbullying.

All member states, including Morocco, signed the proclamation of the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School, Including Cyberbullying, on the 14th General Conference of UNESCO in November 2019.

All 193 UNESCO-member states celebrate the international day on the first Thursday of November.

The two-day conference sees national and international experts deliver presentations on school violence, bullying, and cyberbullying at school.

Experts share effective policies and measures with education ministers of UNESCO-member states attending the event.

France co-hosted the event, in November 2020, marking the inaugural celebration of the international day.

The 2020 conference marked the signing of the “Call for a Code of Conduct to Combat Cyberbullying,” an appeal for an “ethical internet.”

This year’s event is held in Campeche, Mexico, and marks the signing of a second declaration dubbed the “Campeche Declaration against Violence and Bullying at School, including Cyberbullying”

The event will be live-streamed on the UNESCO Mexico Facebook page.

The overall aim of the conference is to raise awareness of violence, bullying, and cyberbullying at school among all stakeholders. Policies and measures proposed equally seek to build a global government-led momentum to combat the phenomena.

Research conducted by UNESCO’s Plan International suggests that more than 200 million children and young adults experience violence, bullying, and/or cyberbullying every day of the school year.

The shocking figures, as well as international experts sounding the alarm, are all factors contributing to the birth of the International Day against Violence and Bullying, Including Cyberbullying at School.
