Rabat – King Mohammed VI wrote a letter to President of Israel Isaac Herzog.

The King expressed satisfaction with renewal of ties between Morocco and Israel, Israeli news outlet Jerusalem Post reported.

“I’m satisfied with the steps we’ve taken to renew the ties between our states. I believe we will take this sustainable momentum and use it to promote the opportunity for peace for all nations in the region.”

The King also expressed gratitude to the Israeli Minister for the letter he sent. Yair Lapid, Israeli Foreign Minister conveyed President Herzog’s letter to King Mohammed VI during his official diplomatic visit to Rabat earlier in August.

In the letter, the Israeli president emphasized the importance of Lapid’s historic visit to Morocco.

He also expressed a desire to meet with the King in the near future, inviting the monarch to visit Israel.

“We are committed to deepening the strengthening of our relations and I hope that they further expand and flourish over time,” the Israeli President added.

Morocco and Israel re-established bilateral ties in December 2020.

Both countries signed a tripartite declaration along with the US to boost relations on all levels, including economy, trade, innovation, and political dialogue.

The agreement also resulted in the inauguration of direct flights between Morocco and Israel.

Israeli Airlines inaugurated direct flights to Morocco in July. Hundreds of Israeli tourists and members of the Moroccan Jewish diaspora arrived in Marrakech in celebration of the renewed ties between the two nations.

The US Administration commended Morocco and Israel’s commitment to improving diplomatic relations and re-affirmed the US’s willingness to collaborate with both countries to boost cooperation.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated Lapid for his visit to Morocco and promised to further strengthen cooperation and partnership with Tel Aviv and Rabat.

Morocco and Israel are also expecting to establish embassies in Rabat and Tel Aviv in the coming months.

Deputy Israeli Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hassan Kaabia said that Morocco will transition from its current liaison office to an embassy in Tel Aviv.

The official also announced that Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita is expected to visit Israel in the coming few weeks for the inauguration of the representation.
