Rabat – The National Office of Railways (ONCF) launched a special plan on Tuesday to facilitate an efficient and compliant return of Moroccans living abroad (MREs) for the upcoming summer season.
In its statement, the ONCF indicates that the company is exceptionally proposing “enhanced train offers and a special welcome rate.”
The special plan includes 21 trains in total on a daily basis departing from Tangier to the South (Rabat / Casablanca / Marrakech) and to the East (Fez – Nador – Oujda), in addition to the rail connection departing from Mohammed V International airport to Casablanca which will be served by 10 trains with a frequency of 2 hours covering the whole day from 5 a.m to 11 p.m.
The ONCF also noted that it is introducing “AHLAN”, a “welcome fee” for the MREs, “offering a 50% discount on the round trip ticket to and from all rail destinations and on all Al Boraq, Al Atlas, and TNR trains.”
The launching of “AHLAN” fee aims to cater for MREs travelers, welcoming them in an optimal manner upon their arrival to Morocco. The intent is to assist them throughout their travel, to continue their journey to their destinations, and to reach the airports and ports of the cities served by train.
The advantageous fee came into effect on Tuesday and is “valid throughout the entire summer season from June 15 to September 15, 2021 upon presentation of an entry and exit ticket from Morocco (plane/boat)”, according to ONCF.
The announcement is in line with King Mohammed VI’s instructions aiming to guarantee a smooth return of MREs to their homeland as it comes following a recent series of guidelines instructed by the monarch to plan this year’s Marhaba Operation. The flagship airline and hotels have previously committed to affordable pricing to accommodate the influx of Morocco’s diaspora.
