Rabat – The World Health Organization (WHO) has said Morocco has the technical skills to combat the novel coronavirus (2019-nCov).

WHO said that Morocco noted several national laboratories have the technical skills to diagnose the novel coronavirus.

“The required kits have been provided in sufficient quantity and a larger supply is expected in two to three weeks,” the organization statement added.

Morocco is among the African countries that have set up an emergency plan to avoid an outbreak of the disease through preventive measures and continuous monitoring at international ports and airports.

The Moroccan government vows that citizens’ lives are the priority emphasizing that all measures have been taken in accordance with the international standards to prevent the outbreak.

Morocco, with high instructions, also repatriated its citizens from the hard-hit city of Wuhan, at the request of King Mohammed VI.

Around 167 of the repatriated Moroccans are currently in quarantine for 20 days to monitor their health.

The government and Morocco’s health facilities have reassured citizens that no one has been diagnosed with the virus so far.

All of the citizens are in good health, the government said in a statement after their arrival last Sunday.

The World Health Organization expressed full support for Morocco and its efforts to prepare for a “possible expansion of the epidemic by providing tests and other forms of technical support.”

The support seeks to implement Morocco’s national monitoring plan in response to the novel virus.

The Chinese government announced that the death toll from the virus has risen to 490.

About 24,324 people are infected with the virus.

Experts predict the death toll will continue to grow due to the high number of infected patients, the New York Times reported.
