French-Moroccan Assaad Bouab Plays Recurring Role in Netflix’s Messiah

Rabat – French-Moroccan actor Assaad Bouab plays a role in Netflix’s controversial series, Messiah, released on the American streaming platform on January 1, 2020.

The series relates a fictional story about the emergence of a charismatic man claiming to be the Messiah (al-Masih) and persuades people to follow him. The man, who believes he can perform miracles, sparks a spiritual movement and stirs political unrest, urging the CIA to investigate him.

Bouab is starring as a recurring actor playing the role of a CIA agent, Qamar Maloof, alongside the main characters Michelle Monaghan, Mehdi Dehbi, and Tomer Sisley.

The French-born Moroccan actor appears in the first episodes of the series, helping his CIA colleague Eva Geller.

Born in July 1980 in Aurillac, France to a French mother and Moroccan father, Assad grew up in Rabat and studied at Lycee Descartes. He left his hometown to take acting lessons at the Cours Florent in Paris, from 1999 to 2002.

In 2006, Assaad graduated from the prestigious National Conservatory of Paris. He appeared in the Moroccan film Marock in 2005 directed by Leila Marrakchi, Days of Glory (2006), Whatever Lola Wants (2007) directed by French-Moroccan Nabil Ayouch, Outside the Law (2010), the part of Waleed in Homeland season 5. He speaks French, English, and Arabic fluently.
