Rabat – Police operating in the port of Tangier-Med, in coordination with customs officers, foiled a drug trafficking operation today, August 27.

The police intercepted a 4×4 vehicle registered abroad attempting to smuggle cannabis while it was boarding a ship headed to Spain, says the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).

Searches using sniffer dogs resulted in the seizure of 460 kilograms of cannabis resin. The traffickers had carefully hidden the drugs in the cavities of the car.

According to DGSN’s statement, the perpetrators specifically designed the cavities in the vehicle’s frame and doors for the trafficking operation.

The DGSN also questioned the 38-year-old driver, a Moroccan national, and his 40-year-old companion.

The defendants were placed in custody under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation conducted by the judicial police is ongoing in order to elucidate the circumstances of the trafficking operation, concludes the statement.
