Rabat – On Saturday, police forces in Nador arrested four people suspected of facilitating irregular migration.
The arrest was a result of a collaboration between the National Criminal Police Brigade and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.
According to DGSN, preliminary investigations show that police also managed to intercept an irregular migration attempt of nine sub-Saharan nationals.

Police also seized maritime equipment including a boat engine, cell phones, a tear gas can, binoculars, a walkie-talkie and an amount of money.
The suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues to determine other possible suspects involved in the network. The suspects are from the city of Nador and Bni Oukil community.
On May 2, police arrested five other people suspected of facilitating irregular migration.
Among the arrests made on May 2 was a driver wanted for facilitating irregular immigration. The driver was transporting five migrants from sub-Saharan Africa.
Due to the increase of irregular migration, Moroccan authorities have been working to strengthen its security.
Morocco’s recent efforts have been effective according to recent statistics shared by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
The Spanish ministry told Spanish newspaper ABC recently that the number of irregular migrants in Spain dropped by 52% from April 2018 to April 2019.
The newspaper reported that a total of 820 illegal migrants arrived in Spain in April 2019, compared to 1,706 in the previous April.
The newspaper also applauded Morocco’s “positive role” in “alleviating the migratory pressure,” noting that the country is itself under enormous migratory pressure as a transit country, with the presence of thousands of sub-Saharan migrants in its territory trying to reach Europe.
