In a statement, the UN mission condemned the ambush and expressed condolences to families of the victims.
The city of Bangassou has seen increased violence the last few days as part of the country’s ongoing civil war. Earlier that Sunday, the militias attacked a cathedral, hosting refugees forced to leave their homes, and on Friday, members of the Anti-Balaka kidnapped a Muslim woman.
Since 2015, the number of Moroccan soldiers killed among the blue helmets of MINUSCA has totaled to six, in addition to many injured.
