Rabat – A photo showing a group of Muslims praying at Synagogue Beth-El in Marrakech is taking social media by storm.
The photo shared on the Facebook page of Moroccan Association Mimouna has encouraged both Muslim and Jewish communities in Morocco to celebrate their co-existence.
Association Mimouna captioned the image taken by journalist Yardena Schwartz: ‘’Before breaking the fast on the patio of Synagogue Beth-El in Marrakech, a group of Muslims decided to lay out mats to perform maghreb prayer facing the ark, which points in the direction of Both Jerusalem and Mecca. This is Morocco.’’
The photo has garnered a positive response online, with followers of the page expressing their admiration for the strong message the photo sends.
One such comment reads: ’This picture needs to be shared worldwide! Israel and the rest of the Middle East needs [sic] to see this. Share the greatness!’’
Last week, Jeunesse Chabad Maroc and Association Mimouna delivered ftour packages to 1,500 poor families in Marrakech during Ramadan.
In addition to the food delivery, Miomouna organized an interfaith dinner took place at the Azama Synagogue in Marrakech’s Jewish quarter last Sunday.
