Rabat – Cadi Ayyad University has secured its position as the best Moroccan university, followed by Mohammad V University, and Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdelah University according to the BRICS and Emerging Economies University Rankings of 2017.

The rankings placed Cadi Ayyad, once again, at the head of Maghreb and Francophone African universities.

The rankings describes Cadi Ayyad as “a major university in Morocco,” and as a “leading scientific and technological centre in Morocco,” pointing out NASA’s latest discovery of two major comets and one near-Earth object (NEO) in the university’s observatory.

The rankings also highlighted Cadi Ayyad’s e-learning program, which offers online courses and helps increase access to education for some of the poorest and most remote areas of Morocco.

Mohammad V University came in the second place. It is ranked as one of the top 200 universities worldwide in a BRICS country or an emerging economy.

The ranking honored Cadi Ayyad by underlining the influential alumnus who graduated from its faculties, including the Pulitzer-nominated novelist LailaLalami, Moroccan Prime Minister, Driss Jettou, and King Mohammad VI.

Fes’s University,Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdelah, ranked third. The university’s mathematics and computer sciences departments ranked well among higher learning institutions in the Arab world. Its regular cultural activities, particularly the theater festival hosted by the university since 2005, were featured in the ranking’s description as an added value to Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdelah’s education services.

Across the Arab World, Egypt was the most represented, with eight universities. The second most represented Arab country was Saudi Arabia, with four universities. Morocco, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates were represented with three universities each. While Tunisia has two universities on the list. Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Oman, and Algeria were represented by one university each.
