Rabat – The General Directorate of National Meteorology (DMN) said heavy rainfall, snowfall, and strong wind are expected to continue until Wednesday in several provinces across Morocco.
DMN said in an orange level weather alert that heavy rainfall that could reach between 40 to 85 millimeters is expected to hit the provinces of M’diq-Fnideq, Tangier-Asilah, Ouezzane, Larache, Chefchaouen, and Fahs-Anjra from Tuesday 3 p.m. to Wednesday 12 p.m.
Rainfall ranging between 30 to 50 millimeters is also expected in Taounate, Tetouan, and Al Hoceima, northern Morocco.
Downpours estimated at 30 to 50 millimeters are expected to hit the cities of Skhirat-Temara, Rabat, Sale, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Khemisset, Kenitra, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, El Jadida, Casablanca, Benslimane, Mediouna, and Berrechid from Tuesday 3 p.m. to Wednesday 7 a.m.
Azilal, Al Haouz, Ifrane, and Al Hoceima will experience snowfall ranging between 15 to 30 centimeters today.
Strong wind with gusts between 75 to 90 kilometers per hour is expected today from 12 p.m. until 11 p.m. in provinces across Moroccan regions, including Sidi Bennour, Benslimane, Settat, El Jadida, Berrechid, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Mediouna, Mohammedia, Safi, Skhirat-Temara, Sale, Rabat, Kenitra, and Ouarzazate.
The same weather which began on Tuesday morning is affecting Tangier Asilah, M’diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Al Hoceima, Larache, Taza, and Ifrane, and is expected to last until Wednesday 9 a.m.
The rainfall is welcome news for Moroccans but a number of residents are still concerned about the downpours which have affected some cities’ infrastructure, including in northern Morocco.
Pictures and videos online showed strong rainfalls blocking roads in Tetouan, northern Morocco.
Some pictures also show rainfall flooding houses and shops, and cars being carried away by strong water.
