Rabat – A Salé-based couple have set up a matchmaking company, making “marriage of the young” their trade.
Moroccan bachelors should no longer worry about updating their online dating profiles or attending social gatherings to meet their significant others. The kingdom is now host to a “marriage agency” that allows young people to meet their “soul mates,” for 10 percent of the price of the dowry.
Mohamed and his wife created the company five years ago and have set up marriages for dozens of young people, charging an equivalent of 10 percent of the marriage dowry.
“The company has married the majority of the young people who have used our services,” Mohamed told Moroccan news outlet Akhbar Alyaoum. “Only a small percentage has unfortunately not been able to meet their soul mates.”
For the founding couple, the procedure of finding a significant other is very simple. Before enrolling in their services, clients fill out a questionnaire to determine their expectations.
“If a client seems to meet her criteria, we organize a meeting in our office, and if it works, the families will meet to formalize the relationship,” Mohamed explained.
He adds that, in exchange for the matchmaking service, the couple pays 10 percent of the dowry, once the marriage is concluded.
