Fez, January 6, 2012

The Moroccan Association of Friends of English (MAFE) is organizing, in collaboration with Morocco World News and the British Council, a forum entitled: “The Role of ICT in ELT and ELL: Morocco World News and English Language Practice”. The event, which will take place on January 8th, 2012, at Literary Café, Complex al-Hurriya in Fez from 3:00pm to 6:00 pm, is an occasion to discuss the role of ICT in English language teaching and learning with specialized researchers in the field.

The forum will introduce Morocco World News as a Moroccan space that allows the practice of the English language, taking in account that Morocco World News is basically written in English and by Moroccans.

Three speakers will participate in the forum: Samir Bennis, Nick Cherkas and Jalal Bounouar.

Morocco World News will be represented by one of its co-founders and editor in chief, Samir Bennis, who will speak about the experience of Morocco World News as a concrete example of the topic of the forum. Nick Cherkas, English language Project Manager at the British Council in Rabat, is expected to speak about the role of ICT in ELT. The third speaker, Jalal Bounouar, the President of MAFE and a teacher of English, will focus the role of ICT in ELL.

The forum, which will be attended by MAFE members and Morocco World News readers from Fez in particular, aims at creating an opportunity for dialogue, debate and collaboration.

“This event comes to meet one of the main objectives of MAFE, which is to encourage academic research in English via the holding of conferences and forums, as well as exploring new venues for the practice of English”, says Jalal Bounouar.

For Samir Bennis, “This event is a great opportunity to meet Morocco World News readers in Fez, interact with them, answer their questions and get them involved in a comprehensive debate over the subjects that are of their interest”.

“We aim to encourage young students and graduates, as well as teachers of English to use MWN as a tool to polish their use and practice of English and keep them up-to-date regarding all what’s happening in the world, in general, and Morocco, in particular”, he added.
