Es-Semara, Morocco, February 27, 2012
Some neighborhoods and streets of Es-Semara city, in the south of Morocco, have seen confrontations between public security forces and pro-separatist groups on Sunday February 26, on the occasion of the 36 anniversary of the declaration of the so–called Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
The city has been overcrowded with great number of demonstrators especially in the city’s main street and in some neighborhoods like Es-Salam and Tan Tan neighborhood. The latter is considered as the main neighborhood where a big number of pro-separatist elements are based.
The massive use of force by pro-Polisario groups resulted in the injury of many policemen and the arrest of some demonstrators.
Sources confirmed to Morocco World News that policemen in the police station of Es-Salam neighborhood were attacked with stones and bottle of glass. “Lots of stones were thrown on the police station, which made the policemen hide inside the station and avoid injuries,” an eye witness told MWN.
Security forces have used constraint to tackle the incident, which threatened the stability of the population and the city’s security.
It should be noted that this is not the first time streets and neighborhoods of the city saw chaos as the Polisario always relies on polarization, using such occasions to involve students, teenagers and children through writing slogans on walls of public school, houses and apartments and installing their flags on the walls of certain public administrations.
The Polisario also wants to exploit the visit of the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, to Rabat to create this atmosphere of tension, promote their fruitless ideology and show to the international community that Morocco doesn’t respect human rights in the Sahara, which is false propaganda.
