Egypt Mourns one of its famous militant journalists, Galal Amer

The famous cynic Egyptian journalist Galal Amer died Sunday morning after heart attack complications while participating at the protests which Egypt has witnessed earlier this week.

Galal Amer had a heart attack on Friday while on a protest with other fellow Egyptians who stood against the military rule in Egypt. The heart attack came as a result of the clashes witnessed in the city of Alexandria between the protesters who support the military rule and those against it.

Galal Amer graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy and was one of the officers at the October war who liberated Al-Qantara East city. He studied Law at the University of Law and Philosophy at the University of Letters.

He is considered one of the most cynic writers not only in Egypt but in the Arab world. His writings described by many critics as a true school of satirical writings based on the independent free flow of ideas and extreme condensation. He worked as a journalist with a widely-read daily column on Al-Masry al-Yawm newspaper entitled “Takhareef” (Dotages). He wrote for al-Ahali newspaper issued by the Assembly Party as well as Maraseel and Maketeeb lil Qurrae (Letters and Messages to Readers) column on Al-Qahira newspaper issued every Tuesday by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

He has two published books: Masr ‘ala Kaf ‘Ifreet (Egypt on the Hand of a Demon) and Istiqalat Raees Arabi (The Resignation of an Arab President).

Amer’s last words, as reported by his son Rami Galal Amer, as he was having a heart attack are “the Egyptians are killing each other!”
