The famous Egyptian player Mohamed Abu Trika, who plays for the national Egyptian team, as well as the Ahly team, announced On Wednesday that he put an end to his football career. His decision came after he declared that he had to recite the Chahada (profession of faith) more than once to one of the fans, before the latter died in the locker room.

Right after after the end football  match between Al-Ahly and Al-Masri clubs in Port-Said, which ended with the victory of Al-Masry (3-1,) deadly riots erupted between the fans of both teams. According to the latest reports, these tragic events resulted in the death of 74 and left hundreds of people wounded.

This is not a football game, this is a war and we are watching people dying in front of us. I had to recite the Chahada to one of the fans before he died,” Abu Trika told al-Ahly Egyptian channel.“

“People are dying and there is no movement to help, no security, no first aid. I call on the officials to intervene quickly. Please cancel the League. The situation is very horrible and this day can never be forgotten,” he continued.

In a phone call to al-Ahly channel, Ahmed Naji, the goal-keepers’ Coach, said that “the locker room has become like a morgue because of the large number of the injured and dead people after the attacks on the players and the fans after the game of the Egyptian League.”

All the players are in a state of shock after a fan died in the room from the injuries he had,” he added.

Mohammed Barakat, another player from al-Ahly team, announced his retirement as well in solidarity with his colleague Abu Trika after the riots that took the lives of dozens of Egyptians.
